Well, 4 weeks into serious diet program and I'm down 11 pounds. That's 3 days a week gym (I've had to skip the two swim days lately my skin is so dry right now) and every single day food program. That sounds pretty good. I always Hope! for about 25 pounds a week, but okay, I'll try and be a little more realistic. I think that is one of the biggest brick walls dieters face. The fact that it (the extra weight) doesn't go away overnight. I mean, how long must one suffer the dieting, right? When do we get to go back to "real food?" Well for all of you who think the weight comes on slow and therefore it should take forever to lose, I don't agree. Hey, you can (I can, we can) gain 5, 10 pounds a week without even trying too hard! Am I right? So, why can't we lose it that fast? I'm just sayin. . .
So, 4 weeks down and at 2.75 pounds a week (avg) that means I have OMG! almost 30 weeks to go. Nope, that doesn't compute. That's 7 and 1/2 months. Nope, that's just F - o - r - e - v - e - r!
Well, here's the deal. Here's what I Finally! figured out. The diet is actually, and for real, forever. It is a never go back to bad eating habits or bad exercise habits, as in "no exercise" is more like it. Therefore, the diet is forever - to stay fit and healthy and not put back on all those pounds you (I, we) worked so hard and suffered so long to lose, you must admit and commit to your new eating habits, this is now your life, healthy as it should be. You have to choose to eat this way to have the best possible health and lifestyle.
Yes, you can, on occasion, explore the world of high fat, high carbohydrate, all real butter, sugar and cheeseburgers!, world out there. But (as in a big butt) you know, you do know, that it will make you gain fat and you Do know it is not saying hello and welcome to the world of cheeseburgers, it's saying goodbye to at least a pint of all the blood, sweat, and tears you shed to get to a healthy weight.
I'm thinkin' I'm not going to use the word diet so much anymore. I'm thinkin' I'm redefining my entire thought process. I'm no longer on a weight loss diet. Instead: I have certain foods I include in my diet, and certain foods that I do not include in my diet because they are not healthy for my body. Diet is now defined as "food and drink regularly provided or consumed" or "habitual nourishment." That's straight from Webster's dictionary, you know. So, try it.
It kinda makes you think about food as nourishment rather than calorie (taco) starved, doesn't it? I like it. And I like not being on a diet, this is just how I choose to eat period. What a relief to know I'm no longer on a 7 month tragic and long-suffering odyssey of dieting! I'm now just me, eating how I choose to eat, choosing to lose weight and get healthy and stay that way. And it's forever, y'all, and that's Now! the good part.

It's so true, a diet is forever and so is exercise. But eventually it gets to the point that you feel guilty when you skip the gym, and you feel great when you go. So keep it up, your doing great!
@gina - Boy are you right about the skip the gym=guilt syndrome - And sometimes I do have to choose work or another commitment over my gym time, but I physically and mentally feel sooooo much better when I make my workouts. It gets easier and easier the more your go. Thanks for your kind words of support.
