Make Your Own Weights By Recycling CDs

This month, I saw this short piece, Trick of the Month, in Popular Science. Mr. Danny Seo shared how he threaded 150 CDs on a metal rod, keeping both sides together by large bolts. When completed, the weight was almost exactly 10 pounds, making it perfect for lots of exercises.

While I am talking about CDs here, I would like to share some other ideas on how to use CDs. You may thread them on fishing line and hang them from fences. This will keep some birds out of your crops. I believe they think they are owls. Put the CD between the tree and the bird house. The squirrels are like "woah, what is that?" The CDs work fairly well as Frisbees.

You may also use them to make wind catchers and windchimes. Add a few beads, bells, feathers and you have a work of art. Make a wreath of CDs, choosing colors to compliment your holiday. You could make a name tag holder for each person with just the addition of candles, tinsel and flowers. Make a small wreath for everyone in a nursing home.

Before you throw anything away, think, "Is there any possible use for this item?" If not, try not to purchase that item again. You can use pop bottles as automatic plant waterers, carry water to bird baths in those large fluid containers. Take the larger bottles to the river to bring home a river plant or fish. Cut down large bottles for water features for your frogs.
