Want Something Sweet?
Stevia is a perennial shrub of the aster family (Asteraceae), native to the northern regions of South America and grown in Brazil, Paraguay, Uruguay, Central America, the United States, Israel, Thailand and China.
I have been using Stevia to sweeten my tea and oatmeal. It tastes great and is many times sweeter than sugar. It definitely has Saccharin, an artificial sweetener, beat on taste. Stevia has been used all over the world for hundreds of years without any noted side effects. Even better, it is safe for diabetics to use.
You will have to look for Stevia at a health food store or natural foods aisle at your grocery. It is classified by the FDA as a dietary supplement. Evidently, the big business of artificial sweeteners and the sugar industry have managed to make it difficult to import and market Stevia. Why? It is cheap.
